Atorvastatin
Tovast tablets contain Atorvastatin which helps reduce cholesterol levels in the blood.
It works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body to decrease the amount of cholesterol that may build up on the walls of the arteries.
Cholesterol build-up in the arteries leads to blocking blood flow to the heart, brain, and other parts of the body.
Tovast is used together with diet to lower blood levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL), increase levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL), and lower triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood).

Side effects:

• Muscle weakness in your hips, shoulders, neck, and back.

• Pain in your arms or legs.

• Liver or kidney problems.

• Joint pain.



Cautions:

• Tell the doctor if you have hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

• Tell the doctor if you have liver and kidney disease.

• Tell the doctor if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. It is contraindicated during pregnancy.

• Tell the doctor if you are breastfeeding.



Interactions:

• Other medicines to regulate lipid levels.

• Antibiotics or antifungal medicines.

• Birth control pills.

• Medicine to prevent organ transplant rejection.

• Heart medication; or

• Medicine to treat hepatitis C or HIV.
