Atrovent contains ipratropium bromide.
Ipratropium bromide belongs to a group of medicines called anticholinergics by decreasing acetylcholine and decreasing intracellular cGMP of smooth muscle in the airways resulting in bronchiectasis.
Atrovent is used to make breathing easier for people who have breathing difficulties, such as chronic asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Side effects of Atrovent:

• Headache.

• Nausea.

• Dry Mouth.



Cautions:

• Caution inpatient with prostatic hyperplasia, bladder outflow obstruction.

• Atrovent should be used in caution with patients having cystic fibrosis as they may be prone to GIT motility disturbances.

• Eye pain or discomfort, blurred vision, visual halos, or colored images in association with red eyes.



Interactions of Atrovent:

• Pasireotide: the risk of bradycardia increases when pasireotide is given with ipratropium.



Indications:

Atrovent is used in these cases:

• Short-term relief of asthma.

• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

• Rhinitis.
