Lice Protection Set

Head lice travel fastest when classrooms fill up, and a household usually loses a fortnight to using the wrong bottle at the wrong moment. The two bottles do different jobs: one is for while nothing is wrong, the other for once lice are found, and that one is a full course, not a single wash.

What is in the box

• Babyllo Anti Lice Shampoo, Prevention and Protection, Insecticide Free, 200 ml — used in place of the regular shampoo, it washes and conditions the hair while helping keep head lice and their eggs from taking hold. Tea tree oil, Melaleuca alternifolia leaf oil, is carried as a badge on the pack.
• NYDA express pump solution against lice and nits, family pack 2 x 50 ml, with lice comb — from G. Pohl-Boskamp. Its two-stage dimeticone is a mixture of two medical, non-toxic silicone oils that physically block the breathing of lice, larvae and eggs and kill them by suffocation. No neurotoxic insecticide. The lice comb is included.

How to use it

• While there is nothing to treat, Babyllo — it takes the place of the ordinary shampoo at wash time. The pack states no frequency.
• If lice are found, switch — Babyllo will not end an active infestation, however often it is used. NYDA express is the treatment.
• First NYDA application — apply, leave 10 minutes, then comb the dead lice and nits out with the enclosed comb. Combing is part of the treatment, not optional. Wash afterwards with an ordinary shampoo, not Babyllo, and follow the leaflet for how much to apply.
• Second NYDA application, 8 to 10 days after the first — required, so that lice hatching after the first round cannot re-establish; the Robert Koch Institute recommends this repeat for all head-lice products. Same application, same 10 minutes, same combing.
• Back to Babyllo — once both rounds are done and the head is clear, the shampoo returns to prevention.

Good to know

These are not two strengths of one thing: Babyllo prevents, NYDA express treats. Put the second NYDA round in the calendar on the day the first is done, because that is the round households skip.

Please note

Babyllo Anti Lice Shampoo is for prevention and protection only. The pack states that it is insecticide free: it is not a lice treatment and it will not clear an active infestation, which needs a licensed pediculicide. Shake well before use and avoid the eyes. With NYDA express, a second application 8 to 10 days after the first is required, to kill newly hatched lice. The 2 x 50 ml is a family pack: one 50 ml bottle generally covers both rounds for one person, and the double pack is for more than one head, or for very long, thick hair. It is not two ready-measured applications. NYDA express is flammable: keep it away from flames, cigarettes and hot objects, and do not use a hairdryer, a straightener or a curling iron until it has been washed out. Avoid the eyes. Wipe up any spills, because they make floors slippery. The manufacturer states that it is suitable for the whole family, including infants and pregnant or breastfeeding women, while some national labels restrict dimeticone lice products to 2 years and over, so check the local leaflet.
