Wellness Care Set

Term time shifts mealtimes and stretches the hours between breakfast and lunch, and that gap is when someone following their blood sugar wants the picture closer to hand. The set holds two separate items, boxed together for convenience rather than as one system: a sensor that reads glucose continuously and reports to a phone, and a daily dietary supplement. What is in the box

• MicroTech Medical AiDEX X Continuous Glucose Monitoring System Sensor, one sensor — a subcutaneous electrochemical sensor worn on the upper arm or abdomen, reading glucose in interstitial fluid every minute across a wear of up to 15 days and sending each reading straight to the free AiDEX app on the phone. It is 22 mm across and 4.2 mm deep, weighs 2.2 g and is water resistant — the brand rates it for immersion to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes, so showering and normal swimming are fine. It needs a 1 hour warm-up before the first reading.
• American Creations Natural Glucose Support with Bitter Melon, dietary supplement, 30 capsules — an oral supplement that the pack says helps keep blood sugar within a healthy range and helps maintain normal insulin function. Bitter melon, Momordica charantia, is the ingredient named on the pack front; read the full ingredient panel on the bottle.

How to use it

• Download the free AiDEX app and pair it — that is the whole set-up before the sensor goes on.
• Apply one sensor and allow the warm-up — on the upper arm or the abdomen, worn continuously for up to 15 days and then replaced. Readings begin after 1 hour and update every minute in the app.
• Confirm by fingerstick — whenever symptoms do not match what the app shows, take a fingerstick blood glucose test and go by that.
• Take the capsules daily — following the dosing panel printed on the bottle.

Good to know

The sensor measures; it does not decide, and interstitial fluid is not the same measurement as a fingerstick. The capsules sit alongside whatever a doctor has prescribed, never instead of it. Because of the capsules the set as a whole is for adults.
