Warnings and precautions:

• Depakine tablets are prohibited during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to the risk to the health and development of the fetus, as they can cause abnormalities in the fetus.

• An effective method of contraception must be used when using Depakine tablets to avoid pregnancy.

• Take whole Depakine pills, do not try to mash or chew them.

• Depakine may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

• Do not stop using Depakine pills before asking your doctor, as a gradual stopping strategy must be followed.

• Taking this medicine can make seizures worse or increase their frequency. You may also experience a different type of seizure.

• Tell your doctor before taking Depakene if you suffer from:

- Liver problems.

- pancreatitis.

- Kidney disease (renal failure).



Other Drugs and Depakine:

• Any other epilepsy medications such as carbamazepine.

• Antibiotics such as erythromycin.

• Cholesterol- lowering medications such as cholestyramine.

• Lamotrigine: The plasma concentration of lamotrigine increases due to valproate.

• Malaria prevention drugs such as mefloquine: reduce the effect of valproate.

• Cimetidine, a drug for stomach ulcers: increases the concentration of valproate in plasma.





Depakine Chrono side effects:

• Headache and dizziness.

• Thrombocytopenia.

• Side effects in the digestive system.

• Thinning of scalp hair (usually temporary and grows back).

• Increased appetite.
