Lipanthyl 145 tablets contain Fenofibrate.
Lipanthyl is a lipid lowering agent that is a fabric derivative which activates the Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptors type Alpha (PPAR?) to increase the lipolysis and elimination of atherogenic triglyceride rich particles from plasma by activating lipoprotein lipase which ultimately has a net effect in reduction of VLDL levels. And help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood.

Points of Interest:

• Advice the patient to avoid excessive sun exposure and use high SPF sunscreen since this medication may increase skin sensitivity to the sun.



Side effects of Lipanthyl:

• Increased aminotransferase concentrations.

• Increased creatinine concentration (reversible).



Cautions:

• In people with severe renal or liver dysfunction.

• Gall bladder disease/ pancreatitis.



Interactions of Lipanthyl tablets:

• Statins: the risk of myopathy is the greatest when it is used in combination

with Fenofibrate.

• Colchicine: the concomitant use increases the risk of myopathy.



Indications:

Lipanthyl tablets used for:

• Hyperlipidemia [Hypertriglyceridemia].

• Reduction of cardiovascular risk.
