Singulair tablets contain Montelukast.
Singulair helps to Control and prevent symptoms caused by asthma, This medication can help decrease the number of times you need to use your quick relief inhaler.
When taken regularly, Montelukast helps to prevent the chest tightness, wheezing and breathlessness that is common in asthma.
It may also be used to prevent breathlessness that is triggered by exercise or physical exertion.
Montelukast is meant to be taken long-term. It is not meant for fast relief during acute asthma attacks.

Points of interest:

• Singulair tablets must be taken regularly for it to work well.

• Do not stop taking Singulair tablets unless instructed by your doctor.

• Your condition may worsen if the medicine is stopped suddenly. Montelukast cannot relieve an acute asthma attack.

• You should continue to keep your "rescue" inhaler by your side at all times.



Side effects of Singulair:

• Dizziness.

• Headache.

• Stomach discomfort such as nausea.

• Indigestion or diarrhoea.

• Tiredness and flu-like symptoms.



Cautions:

• Inform your doctor if you suffer from liver disease or phenylketonuria (a condition where the body lacks an enzyme to break down the amino acid phenylalanine).



Interactions of Singulair:

• If your asthma symptoms get worse when you take aspirin, avoid taking aspirin or other NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) while you are taking montelukast.





Indications:

• Singulair is used for the treatment of adults and adolescents 15 years of age and older who are

not adequately controlled on their medication and need additional therapy.

• Singulair also helps prevent the narrowing of airways triggered by exercise.

• Singulair can also provide symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis.
