Indications:
Zestoretic used for:
• Lowering high blood pressure
• Helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
• Edema
Points of interest:
• Zestoretic may cause dizziness, get up from lying or sitting
position gradually to avoid dizziness on standing.
• Most adverse effects are dose related, start at low dose and increase gradually to minimize adverse effects.
Side effects of Zestoretic:
• Dizziness.
• Lightheadedness.
• Tiredness, or headache may occur as your body adjusts to the medication.
• Dry cough may also occur.
Cautions:
• Lower initial doses of diuretics should be used in the elderly because
they are more susceptible to side effects.
• Hypokalemia can occur with thiazide diuretics.
• Thiazides can exacerbate diabetes, gout, and systemic lupus erythematosus.
• Electrolytes should be monitored particularly with high doses.
• Thiazide should also be used with caution in patients with nephrotic
syndrome, hyperaldosteronism and malnourishment.
Interactions of Zestoretic:
• This medication may interfere with certain lab tests (such as parathyroid function), possibly causing false test results. Make sure lab personnel and all your doctors know you use this drug.
• Some products have ingredients that could raise your blood pressure or worsen your heart failure.
